Charge cycle of Lithium Battery has a close relationship with lithium battery lifetime. A charge cycle refers to a complete charge and discharge course on lithium batteries. If decomposed, a charge cycle is made up of a full charge and full discharge course. Lithium battery lifetime is related to complete times of its charge cycles.


In other words, charge cycle of lithium battery is an expression of lithium battery capacity. It means the process with capacity from full to zero then from zero to full. For single lithium battery, the process with capacity discharged from off-load 4.2V (rated capacity) to 2.75V (zero capacity) and then voltage from 2.75V to 4.2V is called a charge cycle. In this course, discharging a battery with voltage scope ranging from 4.2V to 2.75V cannot be deemed as a charge cycle. In terms of capacity, charging a 2200mAh battery with 1100mAh remaining capacity cannot also be regarded as a charge cycle but half cycle.


Further, numerically, a lithium battery charge cycle equals total output power by a full charged lithium battery. Take a new 2200mAh lithium battery for example, output power is 8.14wh, that is, a full charged lithium battery can continuously work for one hour under 2200mA current.


Currently designed lithium battery charge cycle can attain 500 times, which is also lithium battery lifetime. IEC standard stipulates that capacity carried by lithium batteries after 500-times cycles should be 60%.


It should be recognized the mistake that consumers measure lithium battery lifetime with over 1000 times chargeable cycles. As mentioned above, a charge behavior might be a charge cycle but also a half charge cycle. Some lithium battery producers may mislead customers to advertise battery performances.
