Peak shaving

Peak Shaving refers to the operational strategy of actively releasing electrical energy during peak periods of electricity demand using battery energy storage systems (BESS) or other regulatory resources to reduce the load peak. Its main goal is to lower the maximum demand load, alleviate the pressure on the power grid, and reduce electricity costs.
Basic Principle

At times of low power load (such as at night), the energy storage system is charged;
When the power load approaches its peak (such as when factory equipment is fully operational during the day), the energy storage system discharges;
By ‘cutting off’ the peak load during critical periods, the total load is ‘smoothed out’.
